Man dies after overnight stabbing in Sacramento, police say
Sacramento police are investigating a deadly stabbing reported early Saturday in the city’s South Natomas neighborhood.
Officers responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. to reports of a person with a stab wound in the 2800 block of Sagemill Way, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Police said officers found an adult man with at least one stab wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ronald Rogers, who lives nearby, said his barking dog alerted him to activity outside his home.
“My dog was barking like crazy,” Rogers said. “I came out here and looked at the cameras because I can see what’s going on without the cameras, and I saw the police were here.”
Rogers told KCRA 3’s Andres Valle an officer knocked on his door and told him that a person had been stabbed. He later found blood across the area outside his home, including on the walls, front door and a floor mat.
“There was blood all over here,” Rogers said. “It was covered with blood.”
Rogers shared photographs of the scene with KCRA 3. Portions of the images have been blurred because of their graphic nature.
Another neighbor, who identified herself as Katy and asked not to appear on camera, said she has lived in the neighborhood with her family for about six years and had not previously experienced anything similar.
Katy said her husband noticed police when he left to go fishing around 5 a.m. She then saw that the court had been taped off and that detectives were at the scene.
“That was very concerning,” she said.
The scene was cleared by midmorning.
Some neighbors raised concerns about people parking in the area while attending the nearby Aftershock music festival. Rogers speculated that the stabbing could be connected to someone attending the festival, but police have not identified any link between the homicide and the event.
Police have not released the victim’s identity or said what may have led to the stabbing. Investigators also have not said whether the victim lived in the neighborhood.
No suspect information was available.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are handling the investigation. Police asked anyone with information to contact the Sacramento Police Department.
