A mobile, walk-up San Diego Police Department counter is opening to the public Monday after its Southern Division station building shut down last week due to a possible mold issue.
The temporary outdoor counter, in the station’s main parking lot, at 1120 27th St. in the Otay Mesa West neighborhood, will offer the same services that the public used to access indoors.
“Common services include but are not limited to auto theft reports, missing persons reports, signing off citations, court information, property release requests, vehicle burglary reports, miscellaneous theft reports, and hit and run accident reports,” police officials said in a news release.
The walk-up counter will be open Monday to Thursday from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
After the station closed Tuesday, due to signs of possible mold, the building’s furniture, walls and carpets were cleaned and fogged to prevent mold spores from growing and spreading.
The county Department of Environmental Health and Quality collected samples on Friday that were sent “for rush analysis,” the statement said.
The San Diego Police Officers Association said there had been issues with the building’s heating and air conditioning system over the past couple of weeks and said concerns about mold growth had been brought to police officials.
A water leak in the men’s locker room apparently contributed to the problem, the police union said.
While that station is closed, Southern Division patrol officers are working from the Southeastern Division station.
