ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Steve Nguyen won all three of his singles matches and four matches overall to lead the efforts of the Navy men’s team at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic this weekend.
Nguyen recorded straight-set wins over UC Irvine’s Alex Guajardo (6-4, 6-4) and Washington’s Hyeonseok Seo (7-5, 6-1) and a three-set victory over Oregon’s Alexis Berquier (1-6, 6-3, 6-3). He also teamed with Jake Young for a 7-5 victory over Guajardo and his UCI teammate Nathaniel Suh.
Jason Kim won a pair of singles matches for the Mids during the three-day event. He registered a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 win over Suh and defeated Washington’s Luis Carvalho by the score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6).
Navy also sent a grouping of Mids to take part in the rain shortened River City Tennis Open in Richmond. Ethan Garcia won a pair of matches as he tallied a 6-3, 6-4 win against Hampton’s Kohei Konishi and a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Damian Sancillo from James Madison.
Navy will take part in two tournaments this week, the ITA Atlantic Region Championship in Blacksburg and the Navy Gold Invite in Annapolis.
