
A wrong-way driver crashed on southbound Interstate 5 near Hood Franklin Road early Sunday, killing at least one person and temporarily closing the freeway, according to South Sacramento California Highway Patrol incident logs.
The crash was first reported around 3:15 a.m. after a caller reported a light colored sedan involved in a collision with another vehicle.
According to the incident log, one vehicle was reported driving the wrong way on southbound I-5, traveling northbound. The log said the vehicle went into a ditch.
Officials from South Sacramento California Highway Patrol said the wrong way driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The other car’s driver was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
Authorities began a hard closure of the freeway around 3:39 a.m.
The crash caused traffic delays as crews worked to clear the scene. By about 4:26 a.m., all lanes were reported open, and the closure was lifted shortly afterward.
