Re “Mexico breaks ground on new desalination plant in Rosarito” (Sept. 29): Please tell me that your article is a typo. The formerly pristine beaches of Imperial Beach and south of Coronado have been closed for over 1,700 consecutive days now.

Billions of gallons of toxic pollution consisting of hazardous waste, industrial chemicals, trash and human excrement continue to flow down the Tijuana River directly into mother ocean. Consider how El Niño will wreak havoc this winter!

While Mexico builds the largest desal plant in Latin America, where is their progress on our Tijuana River sewage crisis?

Unbelievable! I’ll hope for that typo retraction in the newspaper.

How is it that Mexico can build an $850 million desalination plant but can’t clean up its own sewage that’s polluting our coastline?
