Aftershock wrapped up its four-day run Sunday night at Discovery Park in Sacramento, with organizers calling it the festival’s highest-attended event yet.

Organizers said the record attendance was partly due to an expanded concert area and additional camping space.

But the larger crowds also had to contend with unseasonably hot October weather. For some attendees, staying cool meant bringing their own equipment.

April Hernandez brought her daughter to the festival as an early 18th-birthday present. She carried a special clear backpack with a small water fan and mister.

“We have a little water fan in here that has a little mister. Theres lots of water stations, and lots of shade when you can find it,” Hernandez said. “WHEN you can find it.”

Despite the heat, fans said the festival was worth pushing through to see their favorite bands.

“Everyone here is just some of the best people you’ll ever meet,” said Franklin Rawlings, an attendee.

Sophia Talbert said she enjoyed the crowd and making new friends.

“It’s been really fun. I’ve had a lot of fun seeing all the people and the crowd’s really nice too, I’ve made some new friends here,” Talbert said.

Organizers said they responded to the heat by adding more free water spigots, keeping bottled water available for $2 and adding misting fans to help keep large crowds cool. Medical and emergency response teams were also on site.
