A homicide investigation is underway in Pacific Beach after one person was shot dead near Crystal Pier on Monday.
San Diego Police said witnesses reported hearing gunshots near Crystal Pier around 2 a.m. Several witnesses, workers and patrons of local bars, found a man on the ground and quickly rendered aid.
The man, described as being in his 20s, died shortly after being taken to a hospital, said SDPD Lt. Chris Leahy.
Police said some people tried to chase after the shooter, but it’s unclear if they ran off or hopped in a car.

It is unknown what led to the shooting. SDPD was unable to provide any suspect description.
