A man was convicted Friday of stabbing his wife to death in front of their two young children, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office announced.

It said in a news release Victor Farias Jr. was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Yolanda Rojo and of inflicting mental-suffering child abuse on his daughters, ages 6 and 4.

The release said Bakersfield police dispatched to the scene at 10 p.m. March 25 in the 7000 block of College Avenue in Bakersfield found Rojo covered in blood and suffering from 69 sharp force injuries on her head, neck and back and 23 stab wounds, along with numerous defensive wounds, on her hands and arms. She was later pronounced dead at Kern Medical.

After trying to stop the 6-year-old from reporting the attack, Farias fled east on Highway 58, the DA’s Office reported, adding that he sideswiped a semi-truck a mile west of Tuck Road and crashed. He was found the next day, when according to the DA’s Office he resisted arrest and gave officers a false name.

He faces up to 25 years to life in prison, plus an additional year, at a sentencing set for Nov. 2 in Kern County Superior Court.
