BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A trade dispute playing out thousands of miles away could soon be felt in Kern County’s fields.

Canada has imposed new counter-tariffs on U.S. goods, a move that could affect local farmers who rely on stable markets to sell their products.

An economics professor in Bakersfield said the uncertainty created by shifting trade policies can make it harder for farmers to plan ahead, adding another challenge for an industry already dependent on long-term decisions about planting, labor and sales.
