FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A large column of black smoke could be seen for miles as a front loader caught fire in the construction company area at the airport.

Firefighters responded to Fresno Yosemite International Airport following reports of a vehicle fire shortly after 11 a.m.

According to the Fresno Fire Department, the crews have been working on the airport runway improvements.

The operator reported hearing a popping noise before noticing flames coming from the engine compartment.

He was able to safely get out of the tractor before the fire spread.

No injuries were reported.

Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.

The tractor was reported to be a total loss.
