MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) — Residents gathered in Madera to protest immigration enforcement operations in the Central Valley.

Multiple people gathered at Gateway Drive and Yosemite Avenue, where they held signs and flags and chanted for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to “get out.” Protesters said the enforcement operations are disrupting working-class families in the Central Valley.

“We are out here trying to spread awareness that ICE is ripping people’s families apart. I have family as well that I am here to support that are here to work and do the right thing as far as working and providing for their family,” one protester said.

The demonstration comes amid several recently reported incidents involving federal immigration enforcement in Fresno and Madera counties.

Action News reached out to ICE about the reported enforcement activity. A spokesperson said the incidents are routine enforcement operations, adding that ICE arrests undocumented immigrants in Fresno every day.

The United Farm Workers also posted a statement on social media reminding people of their rights.
