The ocean has a way of casting a spell on just about every mortal who encounters it, and anyone who is drawn to the water knows how powerful the Pacific’s moist and majestic magic truly can be.

But when late October cruises into view, the ocean’s relationship to spellcasting takes a more whimsical turn: That’s around the time when a caboodle of witches and warlocks voyage out onto a couple of California harbors, as well as beautiful Morro Bay, all to savor some Pacific splendor, autumn breezes, and colorful camaraderie.

While magical beings are always welcome to bliss out while visiting the Big Water, you’ll want to wave your oar like a wand and transport to the following locations for on-the-water witch-a-tude in the weeks ahead. If you don’t want to rent or bring a stand-up paddleboard or kayak, lingering nearby to behold the bewitching proceedings is a perfectly October-y option.

The Harbor Vibes South Bay Witches Paddle will celebrate its lucky seventh celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17. King Harbor in Redondo Beach is the spot, everything magically materializes at 10 a.m. and wraps around noon, and there’s an after party at Riviera Mexican Cantina.

You say you’ve peered into your crystal ball but can’t find the information you need about paddleboard rental and parking suggestions? Your wish has been granted: The event page knows all.

The Morro Bay meet-up will materialize Oct. 24, 2026.

Morro Bay is a major magic meet-up spot each fall, with a sizable group of enchanters gliding around the aquatic setting. A setting that includes magnificent Morro Rock as a backdrop, a sight that makes the ethereal adventure even more marvelous.

Do keep in mind that the 2026 Morro Bay Witches Paddle will take place from 3 to 5 o’clock on Saturday, Oct. 24, which is a little later compared to years past.

This is “due to tides,” is the word from the event’s Facebook pages. Coleman Beach is the spot where the fanciful figures will gather, so keep your eyes peeled for outlandish outfits that feel especially right for October.

And on Friday, Oct. 30, also known as Halloween Eve? Ventura Harbor will welcome the coven for an afternoon of upbeat on-the-ocean fun, starting at 3:30 p.m. and concluding around 6 o’clock.

The happening began in 2018 and has grown, with glee and a touch of glad-hearted ghoulishness, over the years.

“Witches Paddle started out as a small group back in 2018 when a few local ‘witches’ gathered some friends and paddled out at Ventura Harbor in witch costumes,” share organizers.

“Today the event has grown to include dozens of witches, enchantresses, warlocks, and wizards.”

The “inclusive event welcoming all” makes room for both witches on the water and those people who’d simply like to observe from somewhere dry nearby.
