Climbing walls, pump track and obstacle course among fun attractions
Families can try an obstacle course, climb a wall or ride a BMX pump track as the WOW Truck makes stops around Sacramento this week.
WOW stands for “Wellness on Wheels.” The truck is bringing free activities to four locations over four days to encourage families and neighbors to get outside, move more and connect with one another.
The nonprofit health organization Thundering Water is setting up an inflatable obstacle course, climbing walls, a BMX pump track and other games. The effort also promotes healthy eating as a way to help prevent chronic disease.
“This is a small way that we can build a culture together to increase movement, get outside, reclaim ownership and accountability for our personal health, and be exposed to nutrient-dense food that looks and tastes delicious,” said Dr. Cordell Smith.
Dr. Smith is a foot and ankle surgeon who spends much of his time treating complications from diseases like diabetes that, in some patients, can be prevented.
“We believe this is the healthcare company of the future. It’s not focused on downstream disease management, it has less of an emphasis on pills and procedures and instead a much bigger emphasis on getting together as loved ones and neighbors and friends and playing outside together,” said Smith.
The truck will be open to the public Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. outside Pacific Thrift Store on Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights. Tomorrow, it moves to the Second Slavic Church of Sacramento on Watt Avenue in North Highlands.
On Saturday, activities will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bryte Church on Sacramento Avenue in West Sacramento.
