EXETER, Calif. (KFSN) — The Exeter Veterans Memorial Building has added a new district plaza.

It’s a place of reflection, honor and tribute to veterans and active members of all six branches of the United States military.

“Some people gave all their lives to our country, so to me it’s paramount, it is probably the most important thing we can have in our community. Is the remembrance of the dedication of service to the American people,” says Stan Dillon, a member of the Exeter Memorial District and an Army Veteran.

On Veterans Day dozens showed up for the unveiling of the six military plaques and raising of the flags.

Dillon worked behind the scenes to help organize the dedication.

“It was an extensive project which really changed the face of the memorial district, it will be lit up at night so it will be an attention getter. And hopefully bring light to veterans,” explains Dillon.

Local, state and federal funding helped make the plaza possible.

The total cost was about $200,000.

Army Veteran Dave Welch says it was a team effort.

“The contractors, designers, architects, building manager, all the staff who came together to build this. It was really a celebration of their work,” mentions Welch.

It was a labor of love for all to honor the dedication and sacrifice of those who served and those who *will serve in the United States military.

“Our hope is that people come here and they have a place to sit, a place to reflect, a place to just even imagine what it would be like to be someone in those branches or serve themselves,” expresses Welch.

The project took four months of planning and was done just in time for Veterans Day.
