A 32-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after police in Ventura rushed to a park on a report of a woman being assaulted.
Jannier Urbina-Avila, 32, was arrested Sunday evening near Kellogg Park on the city’s west side along N. Ventura Avenue.
According to police, officers responded to a report of a woman screaming for help at about 11 p.m. and discovered an “assault in progress.” Urbina-Avila ran from the scene but was arrested after a brief foot chase, police said. He was booked on felony charges related to sexual assault.
Police said he and the victim, who received immediate medical care, didn’t appear to know each other.
“This was a horrifying situation that no one should have to face,” said Police Chief David Dickey. “Our officers’ quick response prevented further harm and ensured the victim received immediate support.”
Police said officers regularly patrol Kellogg Park, but residents are urged to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Detective Jake Hain at 805-339-4465.
