Federal authorities launched an internal investigation after an off-duty ICE agent was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony assault.
The agent, identified as 32-year-old David Gonzalez, was shot in the midsection after he allegedly assaulted a man and a woman at a Fresno home after being awakened while sleeping on their front lawn.
The agent was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Reportedly, a confrontation took place between police and ICE agents at the hospital, but police denied that any confrontation occurred there.
“ICE officials have been in contact with the Fresno Police Department to initiate their personnel investigation. The suspect remains in Fresno Police custody,” police said.
