Authorities reached out to the public Friday for help in tracking down the killer of an unarmed security guard who was gunned down this week while on duty at Crystal Pier.
Luis Alberto Quiroz-Arreola, 31, was shot shortly after 2 a.m. Monday in the 4500 block of Ocean Boulevard in Pacific Beach, according to the San Diego Police Department.
“Employees of a nearby bar heard gunshots and ran outside,” SDPD acting Lt. Christopher Leahy said. “They found a man who was critically injured and began first-aid.”
Paramedics took Quiroz-Arreola to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance cameras captured images of the suspected shooter — who was dressed in dark clothing, including a hooded jacket or sweat shirt with the cowl pulled up over his head — walking near Paradise Cove clothing store and riding what appeared to be a minibike through an alley in the area.
Anyone who might be able to help detectives identify the killer is asked to call the SDPD at 619-531-2000 or contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers online at www.sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
