“Who Let the Guys Out” for Girls Night Out?

The Cancer Support Community South Bay invites men to join the crowd — for the first time during in the event’s history — its comedy-show fundraiser this month, the organization announced.

The Cancer Support Community South Bay’s 20th Girls Night Out is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Thursday Oct. 22 at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach. Proceeds from the event directly fund the organization’s free programs for cancer patients and their families.

The tradition has brought the South Bay community together for two decades for nights of laughter, dining and connection in tribute to the local women who face cancer with strength and grace, according to the CSC’s website.

It’s the first time since 2019 that the show is running for its usual three nights, organizers said. The COVID pandemic halted the event in years after that, with it taking place in 2022 at a different venue.

A pared-down experience that year reinforced how central the Comedy & Magic Club is to the tradition and atmosphere, said Theresa Plakos, spokesperson for the CSC South Bay, so Girls Night Out returned to its original venue last year. Now, it’s returning in full force.

The one-night event in 2025 sold out weeks in advance, she added, so it’s back to the three-night format to give more people the opportunity to attend and support free counseling, workshops and more for those who have cancer and their loved ones.

“Returning to the Comedy & Magic Club last year felt like coming home, and bringing back the three-night format restores a tradition that has brought our community together for so many years,” said Jillian Van Leuven, executive director and CEO of CSC South Bay. “Opening the third night to men gives even more people a chance to join the fun and help keep our programs available at no cost to those who need them most.”

For the first time, men are invited to the final night on Oct. 22 for a “Who Let the Guys Out” theme. Although being newly welcomed in the audience, men have taken the stage in past years to host and perform in support of the cause.

Each night there will be live and silent auctions offering items like luxury suite concert tickets at the Crypto.com Arena; dinner, raffles, inspirational speakers sharing stories about how cancer has affected their lives, and of course, a stand-up comedy show featuring nationally-recognized headliners.

Tickets are $175, with all proceeds benefiting CSC South Bay’s more than 200 free monthly programs.
