Some of Hollywood’s most recognizable melodies were born behind studio gates, where composers helped turn scenes into cinematic history. On October 17, Candlelight: Film Scores and Hollywood Epics brings those iconic sounds to the Darryl F. Zanuck Theater on the FOX Studio Lot in Century City. With tickets currently 20% off on the Fever website, it’s a chance to experience a candlelit concert in a setting steeped in Hollywood history.
The lot’s musical legacy stretches back nearly a century. Its Newman Scoring Stage was built in 1928 as a motion picture soundstage before being converted into a dedicated scoring facility in the early 1930s under composer Alfred Newman, who later led 20th Century-Fox’s music department

Newman also composed the iconic 20th Century fanfare in 1933, the instantly recognisable orchestral flourish. It was retained after the company merged with Fox in 1935, and has continued to introduce generations of moviegoers to the studio’s films ever since.
Hearing great film themes performed by candlelight on the same lot brings that musical legacy full circle, and is a magical way to pay homage to genre defining film scores recorded just a short walk away.
For movie lovers, it’s also an exciting chance to get inside a working studio lot that isn’t ordinarily open for casual visits. Doors open 45 minutes before the concert, leaving time to take in the surroundings before settling in for an evening celebrating the music of the big screen.
