Students Across Oakland County Invited to Apply for Student AI Advisory Council

(Oakland Schools, Oct. 13, 2026)

Oakland County, MI – Oakland Schools is inviting students in grades 6-12 from across Oakland County to express interest in joining its Student AI Advisory Council.

The council will give students a place to talk openly about how artificial intelligence is showing up in their lives, consider the technology’s opportunities and challenges, and help shape the future of AI instruction in schools across the county.

“Students are already using and experiencing the effects of artificial intelligence in and beyond the classroom,” said Oakland Schools Director of AI Strategy & Innovation, Justin Bruno. “Their perspectives are essential as educators consider how schools can approach AI thoughtfully, responsibly, and in ways that support learning.”

No specialized knowledge of or experience with AI is required to join. Oakland Schools is seeking a wide range of student perspectives, including students who use AI regularly, students with limited experience with it, and students with questions or concerns about its use.

The Student AI Advisory Council is scheduled to meet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the following dates:

· Monday, Nov. 16, 2026.

· Monday, Jan. 25, 2027 (*virtual meeting).

· Monday, March 1, 2027.

· Monday, April 26, 2027.

In-person meetings will be held at the Oakland Schools main campus, 2111 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford.

Students who express interest should be prepared to participate in all four meetings.

Interested students may complete the Student AI Advisory Council interest form by Monday, Nov. 2, 2026.

Families, educators, employers, and community organizations are encouraged to share the opportunity with eligible students throughout Oakland County.
