BERKELEY — A person suspected of driving a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that injured two elderly people last week has been arrested, police said.

The crash on Oct. 7 ended with a 78-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman suffering serious injuries and hospitalized. It happened at University Avenue and Eighth Street.

In a statement, police said they arrested the 22-year-old Richmond man on suspicion of two counds of felony hit-and-run. They found him after obtaining information from automated license plate readers in Berkeley and Emeryville and security footage from nearby businesses to identify him. A witness also followed the vehicle as it drove away following the crash and provided police with a description of it.
