New WOTA Website Makes It Easy to Explore Transit Options in Western Oakland County

Oakland County, MI – Western Oakland Transportation Authority (WOTA) has launched a new website designed to make it even easier for riders, families, and prospective employees to find the information they need.
The updated website features improved navigation, better organized information, and instructional videos to help people learn how to use WOTA’s transportation services.
“Our website was created at WOTA’s inception six years ago,” said Deputy Director Amy Grzymkowski. “As we began to analyze how it was being used, we realized that it wasn’t serving our riders, their families or job seekers.”
What began as a design refresh turned into a larger project to improve how the organization communicates with the community.
The new website includes information about registering for transportation services, scheduling rides, and employment opportunities. It also features how-to videos demonstrating the registration and trip scheduling processes, with additional videos about riding WOTA planned for the future.
“We are mindful that how individuals and families are getting information is also changing,” Grzymkowski said. The organization also considered how people find information through traditional search engines and artificial intelligence searches.
Last year, WOTA provided more than 101,000 rides, setting a ridership record. The organization is now providing more than 10,000 rides per month and receiving more than 50 new rider applications each week.
WOTA also handles approximately 450 incoming calls daily for appointments, with many callers scheduling multiple trips.
While the new website makes it easier to learn about transportation options and the scheduling process, rides must still be booked by phone. Online ride scheduling is not currently available.
Grzymkowski said the website was developed in partnership with Accunet, with input from multiple members of the WOTA team.
“The site was a collaborative effort with many individuals reviewing and providing input,” she said. “Nothing we do at WOTA is an ‘I’…we are a team!”
The organization plans to continue expanding the website’s resources as its services grow.
“The website is an important tool for providing information to the community,” Grzymkowski said. “Our goal is to eventually have it more robust – but this is the first step.”
The website also includes an interactive service-area map, online rider registration forms, fare information, frequently asked questions, and a video library with testimonials from riders and drivers. Visitors can find information about text and phone reminders for upcoming rides, free rides for veterans, and transportation assistance for people visiting participating food banks.
WOTA provides door-to-door transportation for adults 18 and older in western and northern Oakland County, serving residents in Groveland Township, Highland Township, Holly Township, Rose Township, Waterford Township, White Lake Township, Keego Harbor, Lake Angelus, Orchard Lake, Sylvan Lake, Village of Holly, and Walled Lake.
