LONG BEACH — The Long Beach Poly girls volleyball team has been building to this moment for several years, according to coach Gerald Aquiningoc.

Poly defeated rival Millikan in three sets Tuesday, 25-10, 25-19, 25-22, to secure the program’s fourth consecutive Moore League title.

The Jackrabbits improved to 24-7 overall and 8-0 in the Moore League. They went 24-0 in sets in league.

“Winning four straight Moore League championships is incredibly special for our program,” Aquiningoc said. “This senior class is the same group I came in with when I took over at Poly four years ago.

“To see them finish their high school careers as four-time league champions, undefeated in league play, is something I’m extremely proud of. Going 24-0 in sets this season is a testament to their hard work, commitment and the standard they’ve established for this program. We set a goal to go through league without dropping a set and that’s not an easy accomplishment.”

The Jackrabbits, who are led by seniors Cika Talaga (Illinois commit), McKennah Iamaleava (UC Irvine commit) and Aleeya Salima (Cal State Dominguez Hills commit), have not lost a league match since 2023.

“These young ladies have continued to raise the bar each year and I’m proud of what they’ve built here at Long Beach Poly,” Aquiningoc said.

Poly is No. 9 in the CIF-SS girls volleyball power rankings released Oct. 6.

The CIF Southern Section girls volleyball playoff brackets will be released Friday.

Aquiningoc, who led Poly to a CIF-SS Division 3 title in 2024 and to the Division 2 semifinals in 2025, is looking forward to seeing his team compete against Division 1-level opponents.

“I want us to continue competing at a high level and playing our style of volleyball,” Aquiningoc explained. “We’ve built a lot of confidence and chemistry through the season, and now it’s about trusting one another, trusting our preparation, and executing when it matters most.

“We know the level of competition is going to rise in the playoffs, but that’s what we’ve been preparing for all season. I want our girls to embrace the challenge, play together, and continue to compete with confidence. If we stay true to who we are and play to our standard, we’ll give ourselves an opportunity to make a deep playoff run.”
