Los Angeles has no shortage of concerts, from global pop stars filling stadiums to rock bands taking over legendary venues. But when the weather cools down, the city also offers more intimate ways to enjoy live music, including candlelit performances inside some of its most beautiful historic buildings.

This time, one of the city’s most striking churches, tucked into the vibrant neighborhood of Koreatown, is setting the scene for a tribute to one of Mexico’s most beloved musical icons: Juan Gabriel. Thousands of candles will illuminate the sanctuary as a string quartet reimagines his greatest hits in a setting that trades arena-sized crowds for a more intimate evening.

The Candlelight tribute to Juan Gabriel takes place at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, a historic building on Wilshire Boulevard that was completed in 1929 and designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2003.

The 60-minute performance features the Orchid Quartet, which will bring some of Juan Gabriel’s most recognizable songs to life through strings. Some of the classics in the setlist include:

Querida

Así Fue

Abrázame Muy Fuerte

Amor Eterno

El Noa Noa

No Tengo Dinero

Juan Gabriel’s catalog spans romantic ballads, rancheras, and dance-friendly pop. The Mexican artist wrote more than 1,500 songs and sold over 100 million albums. His music has also been interpreted by generations of Latin artists, making this a chance to hear familiar favorites in a different arrangement.

The venue will be illuminated by candlelight, with the candles providing the room’s only lighting during the performance. The event listing currently shows dates from November 20 through December 11, 2026.

This corner of the city is known for its late-night energy, and the reputation goes well beyond a handful of bars staying open past midnight. According to Discover Los Angeles and Visit California, the neighborhood has one of the largest concentrations of nightclubs, 24-hour businesses, and restaurants in the country, also setting it apart from much of L.A., where nightlife typically winds down earlier.

That makes this spot an interesting backdrop for an evening of music: you can spend an hour surrounded by candles listening to Juan Gabriel classics, then step back onto Wilshire Boulevard and find a part of the city that still has plenty going on long after sunset.
