Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a national nonprofit dedicated to providing beds to children in need, will team up with San Francisco 49ers safety Ji’Ayir Brown and the Ji’Ayir Brown Foundation for a community bed build on Oct. 28 in Sunnyvale.

The event marks Brown’s second build with SHP in four months. In July, he returned to his hometown of Trenton, NJ, to build and deliver beds alongside volunteers.

“Now we’re bringing that same energy to the Bay Area,” Brown said in a release. “I want to use my platform to get more people involved and make sure more kids have a comfortable bed to sleep in every night.”

The Sunnyvale build comes on the heels of a major milestone for SHP, which recently delivered its 400,000th bed to a child in need. Over 100,000 children are currently on waitlists to receive beds through SHP chapters nationwide, with 168 beds requested through the SHP-San Jose chapter.

The build will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lowe’s of Sunnyvale, 811 E. Arques Ave. Volunteers of all skill levels are invited to participate, with SHP providing the tools, materials and hands-on direction.

Brown will continue his commitment into November when he represents SHP through the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats initiative.
