A stage musical adapted from Ann M. Martin’s children’s book series The Baby-sitters Club, revealed as in development last year, has set a world premiere bow via Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group. Performances will begin May 6, 2027, ahead of a May 16 opening, followed by a four-week run.
Priority Access tickets will go on sale November 4, with general sales following November 5 at CenterTheatreGroup.org.
The new musical comes from Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters songwriter Mark Sonnenblick and book writer Kate Wetherhead (The Devil Wears Prada). The musical will take on an original story, following the club’s founding members—Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey—as they return to the Connecticut hometown as 25-year-olds to honor a reunion pact. As they reminisce about their past, critical questions about identity, career, relationships, and fulfillment emerge. Annie Tippe (Octet) is directing and choreographing.
The title is being produced by TWTheatricals, Riva Marker for Linden Productions, Naia Cucukov Richards & Lucy Kitada, Peter Richards for Working Barn Productions, Center Theatre Group, and Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas via their production company MountainA, alongside co-producers Gregg Arst and Laura Kaufmann of Tanna Entertainment, and Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon of LD Entertainment.
“The Baby-sitters Club was a formative part of my childhood, as was musical theatre, and I feel so lucky to get to be part of bringing these two worlds together,” says Portman in a statement. “I can’t wait to share the joy these characters brought me as a kid with audiences this spring.”
“We feel incredibly lucky that we’ve been entrusted with The Baby-sitters Club: A New Musical,” add Linden Productions and TWTheatricals in a joint statement. “This series has meant so much to so many people, and we feel a real responsibility to the generations who grew up loving these books—and just as much excitement about the young people who will discover Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey and the rest of the BSC for the first time. We’re especially thrilled by the team we’ve brought together to make this musical. We’re creating something that is big hearted and timeless, while honoring what people love about The Baby-sitters Club.”
