California Attorney General Rob Bonta said he expects to continue suing President Donald Trump to protect Californians’ rights, will work to address affordability, and improve public safety if reelected.

“I got a full tank of gas, and because we’re in California, I’ll say I have a fully charged battery. I’m hungry, I’m ready to do more,” Bonta said in an interview on California Politics 360.

When asked why voters should elect him to another term, he said, “I believe I’ve delivered on the things that are most important to Californians,” Bonta said.

He highlighted his efforts to protect democracy, constitutional rights, and freedoms, including the right to vote. He pointed to his work pushing back against the Trump administration, which he said attacked California’s values, funding, and rights.

He said in his next term, he would focus on continued fights with the Trump administration, while also focusing more on enforcing laws that could help bring down the cost of living and improve the state’s efforts to rehabilitate criminals.

Michael Gates, a Republican attorney from Huntington Beach, is running for California Attorney General, emphasizing his extensive legal experience and a commitment to addressing crime, corruption, and what he calls compliance with federal laws.

“I’ve practiced in elections law, election integrity, California constitutional law, U.S. constitutional law, First Amendment, Second Amendment, parental rights litigation, and defense of police litigation,” Gates said. “I’ve taken cases to trial defending our police officers, both in Huntington Beach and for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.”

Gates contrasted his courtroom experience with that of current Attorney General Bonta, whom he described as a “career politician.” He criticized Bonta for spending time in the legislature rather than in court and accused him of failing to enforce criminal laws effectively.
