The County of San Diego is scheduled to hold its third annual Disabled Veterans Resource Fair Oct. 20, an event to give veterans one place to find services like healthcare, mental health, child support; records, employment help — and even free haircuts.
The free event is hosted by the County of San Diego’s Assessor Recorder County Clerk’s Office and scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to noon at the National University campus in Scripps Ranch, located at 9980 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92131.
Government agencies, nonprofit organizations and community groups that work with them will all be at the event to help connect veterans, and their families to benefits, services, resources and community support in one spot.
The Assessor Recorder County Clerk’s Office will provide a property tax savings workshop for disabled veterans. The County’s Office of Veterans and Military Affairs will help veterans with VA disability claims, college tuition fee waivers and other benefits and services.
Other agencies at the event will include the County’s Health and Human Services Agency; the County Treasurer Tax Collectors Office; the Department of Motor Vehicles; the County Registrar of Voters; the County departments of child support services and human resources; the Social Security Administration; the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help with benefits and VA appeals; the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office; and the County’s VALOR veterans employee group.
Other groups and organizations will include the University of San Diego Tele-Mental Health Training Clinic; Casa Pacifica Adult Day Health Care Center; Workshops for Warriors; Children’s Choice Dental Care and GOVX, which provides exclusive discounts and benefits for veterans, military members, first responders and their families.
California State Treasurer Fiona Ma will open the event at 9 a.m. to talk about efforts to advocate for lower taxes for disabled veterans.
Registration is not required. But people can register ahead of the free event here.
