Ben Simmons, who signed with the Sacramento Kings this summer, suffered an Achilles tear in practice on Sunday and will undergo surgery, the team said.
The Kings said Simmons was injured during a live drill and underwent an MRI, which revealed the torn right Achilles tendon.
Simmons had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in his last preseason game with the Kings. He was poised to make his NBA regular season return after missing the entire 2025-26 season.
The Sacramento Kings will begin their season on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
