Little Simz may just be the future of rap music.

The British musician, whose real name is Simbiatu “Simbi” Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, effortlessly weaves elements of Afrobeats, hip-hop and neo soul into her soundscapes, redefining what it means to be a rapper. Praised for her unique sense of style, both musically and aesthetically, the artist has been widely recognized for her raw storytelling capabilities.

She rose to prominence as an independent artist in the 2010s, and her critically acclaimed 2019 project “Grey Area” was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, the annual music award given to the best album released in the United Kingdom or Ireland. In 2022, her “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert” clinched the prize.

Now, on the heels of her sixth studio album, “Lotus,” the experimental rapper is back on the road, scheduled to perform at Oakland’s Fox Theater on Monday, Nov. 17.
