A beloved San Bernardino County courtroom K-9, who helped comfort victims of numerous national tragedies, died last month, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
K9 “Lupe” served as a courtroom facility dog for the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for more than 10 years. During her career, Lupe helped bring comfort to victims during courtroom proceedings.
“She stood beside victims of crime, offering calm during hearings and testimony,” the DA’s office said.
Lupe also comforted those affected by the 2015 San Bernardino terrorist attack, the North Park Elementary School shooting in San Bernardino, the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas and the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Lupe retired in December of 2022. She died on Sept. 30, 2026.
Lupe was surrounded by loved ones when she passed, including her handler Miriam, her handler’s family, and a fellow advocate from the Special Victims K-9 Team.
“Thank you, K-9 Lupe, for your faithful service, compassion, and unconditional love,” the DA’s office said. “Your legacy will live on in every life you touched. You will be profoundly missed.”
