BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A weather system is making its way to California, with rain to hit Kern County on Wednesday and a Flood Watch in effect.
A Flood Watch is in effect for the Kern County South Valley, mountains, Kern River Valley, and desert areas, from 8 a.m. through Thursday evening.
The National Weather Service said excessive rainfall may end in flooding, especially along burn scars, low crossings, and urban areas.
According to our Weather Authority team, it is all due to our much-anticipated low-pressure system that has dropped out of the Gulf of Alaska.
Thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday afternoon and evening for Kern County, with the heaviest amount of rainfall mid-afternoon. It should break late evening, but round two hits around 4 a.m. This will be more focused on areas of Tehachapi, Lake Isabella, and the Kern County desert.
During the Flood Watch, residents are advised to slow down in areas of lowered visibility, watch for roadway flooding, and seek shelter if you hear thunder.
