A man who was fatally shot near the Ocean Beach Pier early Saturday has been identified as 35-year-old Ismael Ramirez of San Diego, police said Wednesday.
The shooting happened shortly before 12:30 a.m.
Police say a group of at least two men and two women, apparently in their mid-to-late 20s, were hanging out near the pier parking lot before walking south to Narragansett Avenue near the shoreline when the gunfire occurred. After the shots, the group returned to the parking lot, got into two vehicles and drove away east on Newport Avenue, San Diego police said.
One of the two vehicles, described as a white sedan and a blue or gray SUV, may have struck another vehicle as it left the area, police said.
Homicide detectives were continuing to investigate Wednesday, and no arrests have been announced in the case.
