Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Los Gallos Cocina Mexicana in Clawson

Clawson, MI – For this edition of Restaurant Quest, a friend and I stopped at Los Gallos Cocina Mexicana in Clawson to check out some of their Mexican dishes.
Located at 449 W. 14 Mile Road, Los Gallos has a menu that includes typical Mexican fare including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and more.
I decided to try a couple of different tacos, while my friend went with a chimichanga.
The Tacos Mexicanos come with a choice of meat on soft corn tortillas, topped with chopped onions and fresh cilantro, with lime wedges on the side. I had the chicken, which was marinated and tasty. There are several meat choices, including steak, chicken, carnitas, pastor, and chorizo.
I also tried a Veggie Taco, which was a colorful combination of grilled zucchini, peppers, onions, and mushrooms, topped with pico de gallo and slices of avocado. This was a great way to get in some veggies for the day.
My friend ordered the Chimichanga, which is a flour tortilla filled with a choice of shredded chicken or ground beef, then fried and covered with creamy queso dip. The dish comes with Mexican rice and refried beans, plus lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream.
There are plenty of other things on the menu to explore.
For taco lovers, Los Gallos also offers Birria Tacos, made with shredded beef and melted cheese, with a side of consommé broth for dipping. There are also Shrimp Tacos with grilled shrimp, onions, pineapple, avocado, and pico de gallo.
The burrito selections include a California Burrito stuffed with rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, French fries, and a choice of meat. The Gallo Burrito is another hearty option, featuring steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, rice, beans, queso dip, pico de gallo, and pineapple.
Other choices include red and green enchiladas, chicken, steak, shrimp, and veggie fajitas, and several kinds of quesadillas. There are also dishes like Carnitas Verdes, Pollo con Chorizo, and Flautas.
Some of the more unique menu items include Birria Rolls, which are crispy fried egg roll wrappers filled with shredded beef, and Birria Noodles, made with ramen noodles, shredded beef, consommé, onions, cilantro, and lime.
For appetizers, there are nachos, queso dip, guacamole, and Asada Fries, which are waffle fries topped with steak, queso, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole.
And for dessert, there are churros and tres leches cake.
