An Alameda bakery known for its selection of breads and artisan pastries is preparing to close after 21 years.

Feel Good Bakery announced that it will close its two Alameda bakeries, which include the location within the Alameda Marketplace and the outpost inside the Encinal Shopping Center, on Oct. 31, according to a message on its business website. The San Francisco Chronicle first reported the upcoming closure. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)

“This was not an easy decision, and it comes only after thoughtful consideration of all available options,” the message read in part. “For years, we’ve had the opportunity and privilege of serving you and the entire Alameda community. Your kindness and support throughout the years have meant the world to us and each of you has contributed greatly to our success over the years.”

The specific reasons behind the closure are unknown. SFGATE reached out to Feel Good Bakery for comment but did not hear back before the time of publication.

The East Bay bakery opened its first shop within Alameda Marketplace in August 2004 under business partners Danielle Forestier and Rick Kellner. According to a report by the Oakland Tribune, Forestier studied baking in Paris and was a regular guest on “Baking with Julia” alongside legendary chef, author and TV personality Julia Child.

Feel Good Bakery began with a limited menu that featured classic baguettes and pastries crafted with chocolate from Guittard Chocolate, alongside savory options such as pizza, according to the Oakland Tribune. Eventually, the bakery expanded the menu with more pastry goods such as cakes, macarons and pies, as well as salads.

As the bakery prepares to close, online orders will no longer be available, and any preorders will be refunded, the goodbye message shared.
