Anaheim Ducks News & Notes

Anaheim’s fourth line carried the night in a 5-1 win at Winnipeg on Oct. 9, handing the Jets their first regulation loss of the season. Jeff Malott set up two goals, including Judd Caulfield’s first NHL marker at 14:41 of the first period, while Caulfield and Tim Washe each finished with a goal and an assist. Joel Quenneville called it a special night, citing rush chances and extended cycle time in the third period.

The Ducks recalled Roger McQueen from San Diego on Oct. 13 with Troy Terry on injured reserve and Cutter Gauthier and Ryan Poehling listed day-to-day, slotting the 2025 tenth overall pick at center between Frank Vatrano and A.J. Greer. McQueen had three goals in four AHL games after posting 27 points in 36 games at Providence College. Gauthier later left a game with an upper-body injury, and Mikael Granlund is day-to-day with an upper-body issue. Anaheim also signed Tristan Luneau to a six-year extension.

New Jersey Devils News & Notes

New Jersey beat Colorado 4-3 on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center, a game closer on the scoreboard than on the ice. The Devils outshot the Avalanche 16-4 in the first period and 17-9 in the second, with Colorado generating much of its offense, including two goals, after pulling Scott Wedgewood. Luke Evangelista scored in his first game back from an illness, Declan Chisholm notched his first of the season on a delayed penalty, and Arseny Gritsyuk also scored. The win moved New Jersey to 5-4-0.

The victory followed an uneven stretch. New Jersey lost 4-2 in Washington on Saturday, where a disjointed second period produced three Capitals goals and dropped the club to 4-4-0, two days after a 7-1 win over the Rangers. Earlier, the Devils fell 4-1 to Ottawa at home despite outshooting the Senators by eleven in the third period, a night that left them at 2-3-0. Jake Allen has handled most of the recent starts, with Nico Daws in net against Ottawa.
