OAKLAND — A man fatally shot Wednesday morning in the San Antonio district of East Oakland was identified Thursday as Eugene Rutledge, 51, authorities said.
Authorities did not have a confirmed address for him.
The shooting, which prompted a gunshot detection alert system activation, happened about 1:28 a.m. Wednesday in the 2000 block of International Boulevard.
Officers found Rutledge, who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police recovered multiple shell casings at the scene. It has not yet been determined if Rutledge was shot by someone who confronted him on the street or by someone in a passing vehicle, authorities said.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
The killing is the 42nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 55 homicides in the city.
