Solana Beach’s annual Día de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”) event was held Oct. 18 at La Colonia Park. The City of Solana Beach and the La Colonia Community Foundation celebrated Día de los Muertos while honoring the ancestral legacy of La Colonia de Eden Gardens.
Each year, the event features a unique theme, and this year the event paid tribute to the 40th Anniversary of the City of Solana Beach. The community event also featured cultural entertainment, kids’ activities, Mexican American food and beverages, a Catrin/Catrina costume contest, a dog costume contest, and a face mask contest.
The highlight of the event was more than 40 altars honoring the memories of family and friends who have passed away, a news release stated.
