BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 39-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after police say he struck and killed a pedestrian on Olympia Drive Sunday afternoon and left the scene.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on October 25, 2026, at around 12:06 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Olympia Drive and Gallup Drive regarding a crash.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from severe injuries in the roadway. Officers also found a vehicle parked on the south shoulder with sideswipe damage.

Police said the suspect’s vehicle and driver had left the scene.

Bakersfield Police said a preliminary investigation found the pedestrian was either going inside or getting out of the parked vehicle when an eastbound vehicle veered from its lane, striking both the pedestrian and the parked vehicle.

The suspect vehicle, a black Dodge Challenger, was later found abandoned in a nearby neighborhood.

Police said the driver, identified as 39-year-old Calvin Dugan of Bakersfield, was contacted at his home and taken into custody without incident.

Police said driver impairment is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said Dugan will be booked into the jail on charges of felony hit-and-run and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
