BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two people died after a solo-vehicle rollover crash on Lerdo Highway near Shafter early Saturday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said on October 24, 2026, at around 1:32 a.m., officers responded to a report of a solo-vehicle crash on Lerdo Highway, west of Scaroni Avenue near Shafter.

CHP said a preliminary investigation found that a Shafter man was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Lerdo Highway, west of Scaroni Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the Chevrolet to leave the roadway along the north edge, resulting in a loss of control.

According to CHP, the Chevrolet overturned on the north shoulder, ejecting both the driver and a passenger, identified also as a Shafter man.

The Chevrolet and both occupants came to rest north of Lerdo Highway, west of Scaroni Avenue.

CHP said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP said the use of alcohol or drugs as contributing factors in this crash remains under investigation.
