BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 39-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon in connection to a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in southwest Bakersfield, police said.
Calvin Dominique Dugan Jr. was identified as the driver and taken into custody at his home following the crash at Olympia and Gallup drives, according to police. He remains in custody and is due in court Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called shortly after 12 p.m. to the 7500 block of Olympia Drive and found a man down in the roadway and a vehicle parked on the south shoulder with damage indicating it had been sideswiped, according to Bakersfield Police Department.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name has not been released.
Officers determined the man was either entering or exiting the sideswiped vehicle when a black Dodge Challenger heading east veered from its lane, hitting both the man and vehicle.
The Dodge was found abandoned in a nearby neighborhood and Dugan was identified as the driver, police said. It’s believed he was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call BPD at 661-327-7111.
