The Sharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its annual Holiday Fair on Friday, November 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the hospital’s Sandermann Auditorium at 265 Soledad Place. This event raises monies for hospital projects as well as the Katy Green and Cathy McJannett Nursing Scholarship. Through this program, current Sharp Coronado Hospital employees can apply for funding to advance their nursing careers.
Local baker Robbins Kelly will be featuring her timeless Rum Cakes, a favorite during the holiday season. She has been baking the same recipe for over 50 years. Originally, she made them as gifts, but over the years she began her own small business selling five sizes of cakes, from 2-ounce bite-sized to a 48-ounce large cake. The holiday season is her busiest time of year, so purchasing at the Hospital’s Holiday Fair will guarantee the best selection. Robbins boasts that her cakes travel very well, so shipping them to friends and family is a great idea. Buy at the Fair, and you can freeze the cakes to enjoy in December.
The Auxiliary is also pleased to announce the return of their popular “Vintage Village”, a collection of tents offering treasures from years past. Shop for jewelry, hats, clothing, military and nautical items, toys, and much more.
Additional artists and vendors will be selling their wares, including many unique handmade items. A portion of their sales will be donated to the Auxiliary, the nonprofit organization that supports the hospital’s programs and projects.
Handmade soaps, leather handbags, home decor, charcuterie boards, bottle carriers, kitchen tools, cloth carry bags, hand-crafted greeting cards, jewelry, homemade jams, and hostess gifts will be for sale.
The Auxiliary’s Quilt and Afghan Committee will be selling lap quilts and other handmade textile creations. Approximately 80 items are made each year and then donated to patients at the Villa or in hospice care. The Holiday and Summer Fairs are the only times they are available for sale. 100% of their sale price is donated to the Auxiliary.
After you shop, please enjoy the food of two unique food trucks. New to this event is Med Grill, featuring shawarma, falafel, kebabs, and more, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The delicious Nono Jose Argentinas food truck will be returning and will be on-site starting at 9 a.m. Don’t miss their wonderful empanadas!
