REDDING, Calif. — A new 12-seat chapel at Mercy Medical Center in Redding was blessed by Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto, giving patients and families a place to pray and reflect at the hospital.
The Divine Mercy Oratory, better known as ‘The Chapel’, was moved to make room for a specialized crisis stabilization unit for people experiencing acute mental health emergencies.
Soto traveled from Sacramento to bless the new space. He said he was glad the hospital’s holistic ministry would continue.
“It gives me great joy to see that the holistic ministry is being kept alive and that no matter how small the chapel is, it’s big in faith,” Soto said.
Hospital administrators said the chapel supports Mercy’s commitment to caring for patients’ physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Patients and families can use the space to connect with God, find comfort during difficult times or celebrate.
The chapel seats 12 people, so patients and their families will have priority to use the oratory.
