Residents in Sunset Beach spent Tuesday cleaning up after a morning high tide flooded streets and properties.

Jeff Faught and Curtis Black, who have lived in Sunset Beach for 25 and 16 years, respectively, said they tried various measures to protect their homes from the unusually high tides but were unable to keep the water out.

“Today the water won,” Faught said.

Residents in Sunset Beach spent the day cleaning up after a morning high tide flooded streets and properties.

AIR7 showed extensive flooding, with water covering roads. Fire crews went door to door checking on residents.

The high tide also affected Pacific Coast Highway, which was closed between Warner and Anderson amid flooding.

In Newport Beach, city crews mitigated flooding in the Balboa Fun Zone, but water still reached homes, including the Pirate House, as well as areas along Lido Park Drive and near the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

“Things are going to happen. Mother Nature in this case is what we’re up against. But working together is how we stay strong in Newport Beach,” Newport Beach Mayor Lauren Kleiman said.

Back in Huntington Beach, residents continued cleanup efforts while reflecting on forecasts for even higher tides later this year around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“This was our dry run to see if we could handle the real big stuff,” Black said.
