Abbotsford Canucks News & Notes:

The Abbotsford Canucks enter Friday riding a six-game winning streak following Wednesday’s 5-2 victory over the San Jose Barracuda.

Ben Berard scored twice, Riley Patterson finished with a goal and an assist, and Ty Young stopped 24 of 26 shots as the Canucks improved to 6-2-0-1. Abbotsford opened the scoring just 2:20 into Wednesday’s game and held a 2-1 lead after the first period. San Jose tied the game early in the second, but the Canucks answered with two goals before adding an empty-netter in the third.

The winning streak began October 10 against Colorado and includes two victories each over Coachella Valley and Calgary. Abbotsford also established a franchise record by scoring six goals in one period against the Firebirds on October 17.

Through nine games, the Canucks have scored 35 goals and allowed 27. They enter Friday leading the Pacific Division with 13 points and a .722 points percentage. Abbotsford has won its last two road games after losing its first three away from Rogers Forum.

Bakersfield Condors News & Notes:

The Bakersfield Condors return home following a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles last Saturday, earning a split of their two-game series.

Aku Räty scored twice, while Tucker Robertson added a shorthanded goal and Seth Griffith also scored. Nathaniel Day made 28 saves in his first career AHL start to earn the victory. Bakersfield has won three of its last five games after opening the season with consecutive losses against Henderson.

The Condors have scored 20 goals and allowed 20 through seven games, averaging 2.86 goals at both ends of the ice. They have played six of their first seven games on the road.

Bakersfield’s goaltending situation has changed recently. Matt Tomkins was recalled by Edmonton on October 23, while Connor Ungar was reported injured before Saturday’s game. Samuel Jonsson was recalled from Fort Wayne and served as Day’s backup against Colorado.

Friday marks the first meeting of the season between Abbotsford and Bakersfield.
