OAKLAND — A development of more than 100 affordable apartments has gotten underway in East Oakland after a series of real estate deals were completed to enable the financing of the residential project.
The 119-unit Residences at Liberation Park apartment complex is being built near the corner of 73rd Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in Oakland, public records show.
The project, located at 2751 73rd Ave., has received multiple stacks of financing, according to documents filed on Oct. 15 with the Alameda County Recorder’s Office. The city of Oakland leased the land for the apartments to the project’s developers.
The total cost of the affordable housing development is $126.6 million, a post by a unit of the state treasurer’s office shows. Officials and dignitaries held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the project on Oct. 28.
The Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation and Eden Housing have teamed up to develop the apartment complex, whose units are restricted to tenants who make no more than 60% of the area median income for the East Bay.
As of June 2026, the area median income for Alameda County was $113,950 for one person and $162,800 for a household of four people, a post by the state Housing and Community Development Department shows.
This suggests that the maximum annual income to qualify for the apartments would range from $68,370 for one person to $97,680 for a four-person household.
“These homes will empower residents to stay rooted in their city and their neighborhood for generations to come,” the city of Oakland stated in a social media post.
The Residences at Liberation Park apartment complex is part of a larger mixed-use development that’s planned at the site, which is next to Eastmont Town Center.
“Along with the food hall, arts spaces, and resources that will soon break ground alongside the residences, Liberation Park will be a catalyst for neighborhood transformation guided by the vision and aspirations of the people who call this community home,” the city of Oakland stated in the social media post.
