A man is dead after being detained by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the department said.

On Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 5400 block of Hillsdale Boulevard for reports that a man forcibly entered a nearby residence and was physically assaulting the resident.

Upon arrival, deputies located the man on the ground after being restrained by the resident and the caller, officials said.

Deputies say despite the suspect screaming incoherently, they were able to handcuff him with no incident.

Shortly after, the man became unresponsive. The sheriff’s office tells us that despite life-saving measures, the man died at the scene.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the man’s death while in law enforcement custody, Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) are conducting a comprehensive investigation.
