SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Love 916 kicks off a series of events on Saturday, bringing residents, community partners, and volunteers together to care for their neighborhoods and public spaces.
The first target of this brand-new initiative is Sacramento’s I Street park (910 I Street), where volunteers will plant annuals, replace decomposed granite, and pick up litter. Organizers plan to beautify the park to show how much the community cares for Sacramento.
“We really look to our community to help us make sure we are keeping it [Sacramento] beautiful and accessible to everybody,” said Sarah Musser, park maintenance superintendent for the city of Sacramento Department of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment. “We love the city of Sacramento; we love the 916.”
The event takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and is the beginning of a broader series of activities throughout Sacramento. Future events include tree planting, a community mural project, and other beautification events.
No experience or equipment is required to volunteer. Same-day registration will be available on site, but organizers say they’d prefer that volunteers signed up on their registration page here.
