BOZEMAN, Mont. – Jeremiah Davis secured his second career double-double, and four Bobcats scored in double figures as the Montana State men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season with an 83-70 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday.

Montana State shot 51.7% (30-of-58) from the floor in an impressive offensive outing and never trailed in Saturday’s contest. The Bobcats moved to 1-1 on the young season, winning their home opener for the eighth-straight season thanks to the scoring efforts of nine players in Worthington Arena.

“I’m really proud of all the different contributors,” Montana State head coach Matt Logie said. “To get nine guys in scoring – both London and Darnez, their second-half spurt was tremendous for us. Jeremiah got hit with a couple fouls early but then was able to bounce back. He gave us ten rebounds, five offensive – hugely important there – and so we were able to be plus-16 on the glass. That’s a tremendous growth for our program, and it does help to have a little bit of size out there, but it was a good step in the right direction tonight.”

Montana State started the game on an 11-4 run, powered by seven points from Cavin Holden in the first three minutes of play, before extending that lead to 11 points, 19-8, by the 14:49 mark in the first half. The Bobcats maintained their advantage for the entire half, with Long Beach State coming no closer than six points, 21-15, for the remainder of the opening 20 minutes. Christian King, Davis, and Jed Miller combined for 30 of the Bobcats’ final 34 points of the half, with King stringing together eight-straight MSU points between the 14:49 and 10:09 marks in the first half; Davis sinking a layup and a pair of free throws with just over seven minutes on the clock; and Miller adding the next three Bobcat buckets for eight of his 11 first-half points.

The Bobcats entered halftime with a 41-32 lead thanks to 12 points from King, 11 points from Miller, seven points and four rebounds by Davis, seven points from Holden, and five boards by Jaden Steppe. The Bobcats made 16 of their 32 shots in the first half, tallied 12 points off seven Long Beach State turnovers, and posted 20 points in the paint.

The Beach trimmed Montana State’s lead to four points, 46-42, thanks to a 10-2 run following Davis’ three to open the second half, but that was the closest the Beach would come as Howie Keene and Miller knocked down back-to-back threes to push the lead back to 10 points, 52-42, at the 15:29 mark. From there, London Praytor and Darnez Slater combined for the Bobcats’ next 17 points to help the Bobcats push their lead to as high as 19 points, 67-48, with 10:47 to play. The Beach used a 9-0 to close the gap back to single digits, 69-60, with 7:47 to play before back-to-back Davis and Steppe layups helped the Bobcats regain their double-digit lead for good. The duo tallied 11 of the Bobcats’ final 14 points as Montana State went on to win, 83-70, for their first victory of the season.

The Bobcats finished the contest with a 51.7% clip from the field, including 39.3% from three-point range. The Bobcats held the Beach to just 3-of-14 (24.1%) from deep while outrebounding Long Beach State by an impressive 39-23 margin. Montana State also led in assists (12-7), points off turnovers (17-13), paint points (36-30), second-chance points (12-5), fast-break points (10-7), and bench points (25-20) as the Bobcats put together an all-around team performance in Bozeman on Saturday.

Davis led Montana State with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists, posting team highs in each category while leading the team in scoring for the second-straight game to open the season. He earned his second career double-double, last tallying 12 points and 11 boards against Northwest during the 2025-26 season (Dec. 22, 2025), to help kick off an impressive start to the season. Miller tallied 14 points in his season debut, while King (12) and Slater (10) joined Davis and Miller with double-digit scoring efforts. Steppe (6 pts, 9 reb) and Keene (6 pts, 6 reb, 2 stl) contributed well for the Bobcats on both ends of the floor, while Holden finished with nine points after his strong first half.

Montana State next heads to Provo, Utah, to face No. 25 BYU at the Marriott Center on Thursday, Nov. 12. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT, with the contest to air live on ESPN+.
