A 37-year-old homeless woman who was fatally struck while crossing a Long Beach street was identified Thursday.

The woman was hit around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Anaheim Street and Alamitos Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Upon arrival, officers located a female adult pedestrian” lying in the roadway, according to police statement. “Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and determined the pedestrian deceased at the scene.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified her Wednesday as Amber Mitchell, who sustained fatal blunt trauma.

Police said a 1997 Chevrolet Sierra was being driven west on East Anaheim Street when it struck the pedestrian, who was in the roadway outside of a crosswalk.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the LBPD, which stated that the crash did not appear to have been the result of excessive speed, distracted driving or impaired driving.
